Varun Chakravarthy is proving unplayable in T20Is, with the spinner winning the Player of the Series award against England. He took 14 wickets in five matches. Former India player R Ashwin wants the selectors to include the champion spinner in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Blue have already announced the 15-member team for the global event, set to take place in Pakistan and Dubai from February 19.
Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar will be traveling for the event, but the teams can make changes until the second week of February.
“We are talking about his inclusion and I feel he might still be there. There is a chance as all the teams are allowed to make changes,” R Ashwin said.
“If you look at the annonced squad, if a fast bowler is removed and Varun comes in, it will take the spinners count to five. I don’t know who will be dropped if they think about adding Varun,” he added.
Ashwin mentioned that Varun might play in the ODI series against England. For the record, he is not part of the team. In last year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, Varun took 18 wickets from 6 matches at an average of 12.72.
“He might get a chance to play in the ODI dseries against England. It is not going to be an easy call to take him to Champions Trophy without any ODIs under his belt. They will give him a chance in the ODI series,” he added.
“If he doesn’t get a chance. it is difficult for him to play in the Champions Trophy,” he concluded.
