Kuldeep Sen, the newest addition to Punjab Kings for IPL 2025, is excited about making a difference in the forthcoming season. A cricket enthusiast from an early age, Sen started playing at 15 but kept his passion concealed from most of his relatives, especially his father, who was not fond of cricket.
“No one in my family had much knowledge about cricket. Coming from a very middle-class family, they were unaware of playing cricket, training locations, and so forth. Everyone enjoyed watching cricket, but my father didn't like it at all. He began watching cricket only after I commenced playing; otherwise, he wouldn't have been a supporter. When I started playing cricket, only my mother knew about it,” Sen mentioned.
Financial constraints made his early years in cricket significantly more challenging. However, being chosen for the Madhya Pradesh team in 2019 changed everything, including earning his father’s support. He made his ODI debut for India in 2022 against Bangladesh. Reflecting on his selection for India, Sen noted, "I was at NCA when my call for India arrived. I had no idea I would be selected. My friend at Rajasthan Royals called me and told me I was chosen. I was sleeping at that moment and unaware of my selection. I couldn't sleep the night before my match against Bangladesh was set…I was also very thrilled to play the match. Representing the country remains the greatest achievement of my life, and I will always cherish it. ”
Kuldeep is now prepared to compete for PBKS, making the chance even more significant as he remembers his initial IPL trial with the team back in 2018. “I was training in Bangalore and was seated with my friends. I had this inner feeling, even before the auction began, that I would be picked by .I shared this with my friends as well. I gave my first IPL trial for Punjab Kings back in 2018. So, I had a strong feeling that this year, I would be chosen by Punjab. I was thrilled that I was joining a fantastic team and would gain a new experience with this new squad,” he recounted.
Additionally, Kuldeep will reunite with his Rajasthan Royals teammate, Yuzvendra Chahal. Kuldeep fondly describes Chahal as a lively individual: “I have been with Yuzi bhai for three years. He is a playful and funny person who brings laughter to everyone on the field and in the hotel. He possesses a very genuine heart. You can converse with him at any time, and you learn a lot from him. However, whenever one encounters him, he will try to annoy you just for fun. “
