Gongadi Trisha among four Indians named in team of ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup

Four Indians, including leading run-getter Gongadi Trisha, were named in the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup team of the tournament, announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, February 3.

Gonagdi Trisha's inclusion comes as no surprise as she topped the batting charts, scoring 308 runs at an average of 77.25 and a strike rate of 147. Tirsha was a pillar for the champions at the top of the order. Her standout performance in the final against South Africa included an unbeaten 44 and three crucial wickets. India in Kuala Lumpur on Monday to win the tournament for the second successive time.

South Africa's Kayla Reyneke was named the captain of the team in a reward for her insipring leadership that powered the African side to another ICC final.

Joining Trisha is G Kamalini, the opening batter who brought in a lot of solidity to the top of the order.. Kamalini's contributions included a solid 56 not out in the semi-final against England, which helped India secure their place in the final. Her overall tally of 143 runs at an average of 35.75 highlighted her consistency at the top of the order.

The batting lineup was complemented by South Africa's Jemma Botha, England's Davina Perrin, and Australia's Caoimhe Bray, all of whom made significant contributions with the bat. Bray, in particular, showcased her all-round skills by also taking seven wickets during the competition.

VAISHNAVI SHARMA LEADS BOWLING ATTACK

The bowling attack in the team of the tournament is spearheaded by India's Vaishnavi Sharma, whose remarkable 17 wickets came at an average of 4.35, including a record-breaking five-wicket haul, which included a hat-trick, against Malaysia. Vaishavi's teammate, Aayushi Shukla, also made her mark with 14 wickets, including a notable 4 for 8 against Scotland.

Sri Lanka's Chamodi Praboda also featured in the bowling lineup with nine wickets, showcasing her potential as a promising young spinner.

Nepal's Puja Mahato was recognised as the all-rounder of the tournament, with her standout performance against Malaysia earning her the Player of the Match award. Mahato's contribution included an unbeaten 23 with the bat and bowling figures of 4 for 9, which played a crucial role in her team's victory.

Additionally, England's Katie Jones was acknowledged for her exceptional wicketkeeping, with nine dismissals, including seven stumpings, underscoring her sharpness behind the stumps. South Africa's Kayla Reyneke was named captain of the team, having led her side to an unbeaten run until the final, while also contributing 11 wickets throughout the tournament.
