Delhi: In the fifth and last T20 match played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Indian cricket team defeated England by 150 runs and won the series 4–1. Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 247/9 in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Verma (24) added 115 runs for the second wicket after opener Sanju Samson (16) was dismissed early.
Subsequently, Abhishek completed his century in just 37 balls and scored an explosive innings of 135 runs in 54 balls, including 7 fours and 13 sixes. In the middle order, Shivam Dubey also scored 30 runs in 13 balls to reach the team's score to 247.
The England team stumbled from the beginning to chase the target. Except Phil Soult (55), the rest of the batsmen could not do anything special and the entire team was all out for just 97 runs.
At the same time, Abhishek has now become the biggest innings batsman for India in T20 International. He broke the record of Shubman Gill (126 runs vs New Zealand, 2023). Not only this, he became the batsman to score the fastest century in T20 Internationals according to overs (10.1). Earlier this record was named after Quinton Dickock (10.2 overs) of South Africa. He even made a record of hitting the most sixes (13) for India in an innings.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson hit a six off Jofra Archer on the very first ball of the innings. With this, he became the third Indian to hit a six on the first ball of the T20I match. Prior to them, Rohit Sharma (2021) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (2024) have done this feat. However, Samson was dismissed for 16 runs in 7 balls.
For India, Mohammed Shami got 3, Varun Chakraborty, Shivam Dubey and Abhishek Sharma got 2-2 and Ravi Bishnoi got 1 wicket.
