Former England captain Kevin Pietersen urged Yuvraj Singh to stop criticizing Abhishek Sharma as he is a good batter. Yuvi has been slamming the cricketer because of his habit of gifting his wicket to the rivals. The southpaw goes after the bowlers from ball one, resulting in his downfall. However, Sharma scored 135 runs off 54 balls in the fifth T20I against England at the Wankhede Stadium. He hit 13 sixes and 7 fours, with the Men in Blue winning the contest by 150 runs after dismissing the rivals for 97 runs.
The hosts amassed 247/9 in 20 overs, and the bowlers did the rest of the job. Mohammed Shami picked up three wickets in his second game of the series. Yuvraj took to social media to laud the batter, and his tweet was highlighted by Abhinav Mukund, leading to a cheeky reaction by Pietersen.
“Yuvi, you pie chucker, you can criticize him. He is a good batter and played one of the best innings in T20Is. Yuvraj only likes to abuse those who take on Manchester United,” he said on Star Sports.
Parthiv Patel also opined on the matter, saying Yuvraj gets frustrated when Abhishek is dismissed cheaply.
“Yuvraj Singh is his mentor, and he gets frustrated when Abhishek doesn’t score runs and gets out cheaply. Yuvi wants Abhishek to be among the runs as he knows the quality and skills of the young batter,” he said.
