Within just 8 months, Indian cricket fans got another good news. On 29 June 2024, Team India won the T20 World Cup title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma in Barbados. Now on 2 February 2025, under the captaincy of Nikki Prasad, the Indian women's team created history by winning the Under-19 T20 World Cup. Like Rohit's team, Nikki and his colleagues also won the title by defeating South Africa in the final. But while the senior team received a strong reward from the ICC, the junior women's team will have to return empty -handed.

Why did Team India not get money?

The final Indian women's team, played on Sunday 2 February in Kuala Lumpur, won the title by defeating South Africa by 9 wickets in a one -sided manner. In this way, this trophy has come in India's bag for the second consecutive time after 2023. But while the team winning in other tournaments from the ICC gets prize money, it did not happen in this tournament. Yes, the Indian team, which won the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup, did not get any prize money i.e. a cash reward from the ICC.

ICC chairman Jai Shah was also present during the final and he gave the winning Indian team a trophy of the World Cup, while every player also got medals but the players did not get any kind of money. But this is not the first time that the Under-19 World Champion team did not get any prize money. Two years ago, when the Indian team won the title of this tournament for the first time, no cash reward was still received. In fact, there is no provision from the ICC to give money as a reward for any World Cup at the under-19 level.

BCCI will get award

The winning team is not given money in the Men's Under-19 World Cup, which has been going on for many years. There is a rule to give only the trophy and the winners medal to the players. Even though the players have not rained money from the ICC, the Indian Cricket Control Board has definitely been doing this and can do this time too. The BCCI had announced to give Rs 5 crore to the under-19 team that won the previous World Cup. Similarly, BCCI also announced a huge amount for the Indian team that won the Men Under-19 World Cup in 2022. In such a situation, if the Indian board announces something like this this time too, then it should not be surprising.
