IND vs ENG : Varun Chakaravarthy has been in sensational form for India during the ongoing five-match T20I series against England. The 33-year-old spinner from Tamil Nadu has scalped a total of 12 wickets and stands as India's leading wicket-taker in the series.

As the Men in Blue head into the fifth T20I at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, February 2 with a 3-1 series lead, he will be eager to continue his impressive run and challenge the English batters once again.

He is on the verge of creating history in the final match of the series. If he manages to pick up at least four wickets in Mumbai, he will surpass the world record for the most wickets in a bilateral T20I series, currently held by West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder. Holder set the record by claiming 15 wickets against England in a five-match series in 2022. This milestone will be a significant achievement for Chakaravarthy, who has been a key figure in India's bowling lineup this series.

Most Wickets In T20I Bilateral Series

Jason Holder (West Indies): 15 vs England (2022)

Sami Sohail (Malawi): 14 vs Mozambique (2019)

Ish Sodhi (New Zealand): 13 vs Australia (2021)

Charles Hinze (Japan): 13 vs Mongolia (2024)

Varun Chakaravarthy (India): 12 vs England (2025)*

Varun Chakaravarthy (India): 12 vs South Africa (2024)

Pratik Singh Bais (Mexico): 12 vs Costa Rica (2024)

Sandeep Lamichhane (Nepal): 12 vs Kenya (2022)

Hayden Walsh (West Indies): 12 vs Australia (2021)

The KKR man already holds the record for the most wickets in a bilateral T20I series for India. Remarkably, he is the only Indian bowler to have taken at least 10 wickets in a single T20I series. Even if he secures just one wicket in the final match, he will break his own record for the most wickets by an Indian in a bilateral T20I series.

Previously, he achieved this feat during a four-match T20I series against South Africa in November 2024, where he also claimed 12 wickets.

To break Arshdeep Singh's record for the most wickets by an Indian in T20I series, Chakaravarthy would need to take six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium. This is a challenging task, as only two Indian bowlers have managed to achieve a six-wicket haul in a T20I match. The record for the most wickets in a T20I match for India against England is held by Yuzvendra Chahal, who delivered an outstanding performance with figures of 6 for 25 in four overs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on February 1, 2017.
