Former England captain Kevin Pietersen is finding hard to move on from the concussion substitute controversy during the fourth T20I between India and the Jos Buttler-led team. Shivam Dube, who was hit on the helmet in the last over of the Men in Blue’s innings, was substituted after being impacted by concussion.
The hosts added Harshit Rana to the playing XI for the second part of the contest and he took three wickets in Pune.
Jos Buttler refused to accept that it was a like-to-like replacement as Dube plays as a batter, while Harshit is a specialist pacer. Apart from Pietersen, Nick Knight and Alastair Cook also slammed the officials for approving it.
Although KP admitted that England lost the match due their batters’ mistakes, he felt the match referee should have been made a right decision.
“Concussion sub is quite the topic everywhere here atm and my view is…it was NEVER a like for like replacement and the match referee should just hold his hand up and say he got that one wrong. End of event for good and we move on to another great clash this evening,” he wrote on X.
Shivam Dube is likely to play in the fifth and final T20I between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After the series, the two teams will compete in three-match ODI series.
