Indian T20I skipper reflected on his iconic catch at long off to dismiss David Miller during the last over of the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa in Barbados.
During the red carpet of the annual BCCI Awards ceremony (Naman Awards), Suryakumar said how that iconic moment changed his life and called it as one of the greatest moments of his career.
Notably, during the high voltage final clash between India and South Africa on July 29, 2024, David Miller attempted a big shot againt Hardik Pandya at long off when the Proteas needed 16 runs off the last six balls. At first, it was looking like a clear six, but then Suryakumar Yadav came in between and took the most important catch of the tournament to dismiss dangerous Miller. Eventually, India won the final by seven runs and went on to lift the ICC title after 11 years.

Grateful for that moment: Suryakumar Yadav on his iconic T20 World Cup winning catch
Suryakumar Yadav has currently been appointed as a full-time captain of the Indian T20I side until the 2026 T20 World Cup. Talking about his catch. Suryakumar said 'I'm really happy and proud, and at the same time, grateful for that moment. When the ball went in the air, I just wanted to push it back inside the boundary, maybe save two or four runs. But being in that 15-22 second moment completely changed my life, and it's one of the greatest moments of my career,' as quoted in Inside Sports.
Speaking further, Suryakumar Yadav also reflected on the challenges that Indian T20I side had to face in future and how he looks forward to lead Men in Blue in the shortest format. 'We've decided to play a fearless brand of cricket, no matter the situation. In T20s, the game is over in a blink, so everyone must have their own plan, but we all need to be on the same page. If we want to do something special, change the way T20 cricket is played, we have to go out and express ourselves,' Suryakumar said.
