Team India star fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah and women's cricket team veteran opener Smriti Mandhana were honored as the best cricketer of the year by BCCI. In the BCCI's annual 'Naman Awards' held in Mumbai, both Indian cricket stars were awarded the biggest awards of the year in the 2023-24 season. Apart from these two, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was also honored by BCCI by giving the Lifetime Achievement Award. At the same time, superstar of Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket last year, was specially honored for his contribution to Indian cricket.
Like every year, BCCI once again honored the country's best cricketers on Saturday 1 February. In these awards held at the Five Star Hotel in Mumbai, not only the big players of international cricket were honored, but the players who left their mark in domestic cricket also received special awards. But the most eyes were on the best cricketers of the year and they met Bumrah and Mandhana.
In 2007, BCCI started the award in the name of former legendary cricketer Poly Umrigar to honor the year's Best Men's cricketer. The first Poly Umrigar Award was given to the great batsman Sachin Tendulkar. On 1 February 2025, Jasprit Bumrah was awarded this award. Bumrah received the award for a great performance in ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and Test cricket in 2023-24 season. Bumrah has won this trophy for the second time. Earlier, he also received this award for the 2018-19 season.
