Comeback man Shivam Dube was one of the saviours for India in Pune as his 53 off 37 balls powered India to 181 in their 20 overs. Dube hit 7 boundaries and 2 sixes in his innings which gave India a late flourish after a very shaky start to the innings as Saqib Mahmood ran through the top-order.
returned to the pavilion without making an impact with the bat. A brief partnership from Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh helped India stabilise the innings before Adil Rashid came in to dismiss the well-set opener. This brought Dube to the crease, who was playing his first T20I since July 2024 when he played against Sri Lanka.
Dube would come in and dispatch Rashid for a six off his second ball as he made his intentions clear against the veteran spinner. Handling spin has been the Mumbai all-rounder's role in his IPL side, CSK and he did exactly that against Rashid. India found themselves in a bit of trouble with the wicket of Rinku, but that brought Hardik Pandya to the crease and the 2 all-rounders would launch a sensational counter-attack that caught England off guard.
Dube continued to torment Rashid as he hit him for a four and a six in the 14th over to accelerate the innings. He was mostly a spectator as Hardik started to go ballistic from the other end as he scored his ,but Dube ensured he kept pace with his batting partner.
Dube would hit a boundary off Archer as the duo started to pick off on the England bowlers with aggression. The duo put on a partnership of 87, the second-highest for India when it comes to the sixth wicket or lower.
Hardik's wicket meant that Dube had to ensure he stayed till the very end and the southpaw reached his fifty off 31 balls with 2 consecutive boundaries against Carse in the 19th over. Dube was there till the very end and was run out off the last ball to get India to the desired total.
