Abhishek Sharma is often compared with his mentor Yuvraj Singh, considering the way the young batters hit shots. However, legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar refused to keep Yuvraj and Abhishek in the same league. Abhishek has played a few good innings for India in T20Is and was looking good in the fourth contest against England, but his habit of playing too many shots ended his knock in Pune.
Yuvraj has been critical of Abhishek’s approach in the past and has questioned his habit of not buying time in the middle. His place in the team is not confirmed, with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal due to return in the near future. The management is backing him, but the southpaw hasn’t been able to justify his selection.
Gavaskar reminded everyone about the qualities of Yuvraj Singh. “Yuvu could hit the ball miles away. He smashed the ball way back than Abhishek Sharma. Yuvi used to build his innings in T20 cricket,” he said.
Abhishek doesn’t look for singles and doubles and instead believes in going for big shots. He hit a hundred in the second T20I match of his career against Zimbabwe and was unstoppable for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 17th season of the Indian Premier League.
