It is tough to convince and make former the current India head coach, Gautam Gambhir, laugh. He always carries an intense look on his face and the same was the case in the second T20I between India and England in Chennai. Even when batters were hitting fours and sixes, Gambhir didn’t give a smile. However, Tilak Varma’s knock was so satisfying for the coach that he ended up smiling while meeting the star of the match after the team’s win.
Tilak was coming back after successfully completing his job and met Gambhir, who not only shook his hand but also hugged him. The veteran had a smile on his and it was rare to see Gautam happy.
Tilak spoke about his conversation with Gambhir before the match.
“I was talking to Gautam Gambhir sir, and he told me to play according to the situation. He urged me to take the charge and bat sensibly if the team needs 10 runs in an over,” Tilak Varma said.
Varma added that Gambhir conversed with him during the drinks break in the second T20I in Chennai. Gambhir boosted his confidence by saying that he had a chance to prove himself by taking the team to a win in a tough situation. The left-handed batter amassed 72 runs off 55 balls, with the help of 5 sixes and 4 fours in 19.2 overs.
