While the great batsmen of international cricket like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane failed, all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who played in the lower order, created a stir with his bat. In the Ranji Trophy match being played between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir, Mumbai all-rounder Shardul scored an excellent century in the second innings and once again got his team out of a difficult situation. This is the second century of Shardul's first class career and both times he pulled out the Mumbai team which was in trouble.
The Mumbai team, playing against Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA-BKC ground, was troubled by the new ball in both the innings. Jammu and Kashmir had gained a lead of 90 runs over Mumbai. After this, just like in the first innings, in the second innings all the top order batsmen proved to be a flop and 7 wickets fell for just 101 runs. At such a time, Shardul scored a surprising century at the crease. This all-rounder responded to being dropped from Team India on the Australia tour with an excellent innings.
Even on the first day of the match, Shardul played a fighting innings and took the Mumbai team, which had lost 7 wickets for just 47 runs, to the score of 120 with the help of his 51 runs. In that innings, Shardul along with Tanush Kotian had made an important partnership of 63 runs. Once again these two batsmen worked as trouble-shooters for Mumbai. The partnership between the two started at 101 runs and they took the team beyond 200 runs. During this, Shardul scored the second century of his first class career in just 105 balls. At the same time, Tanush was also staying with him till half the time.
This innings of Shardul has come at a time when he has been dropped from the Indian Test team. Shardul, who played an important role in winning the Brisbane Test in 2021, was not selected for the Australia tour this time. The pain of his disappointment came to the fore even after the first day's play, when he brought some relief to the team by scoring a half-century. Shardul had said, “What can I say about my quality? People should speak. They should see that if someone has quality then he should get some more opportunities. I like batting in difficult conditions. Everyone does well in easy situations but what matters is how you do in difficult situations.”
