Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary doens’t like the current head coach Gautam Gambhir. He recently recalled an incident where the two would have hit each other after a match.
Tiwary spoke to ‘The Lallantop’ and opened up on his relationship with Gambhir. He stated that the two would have been involved in a physical fight if former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram had not intervened.
“I scored 139 runs while Gambhir managed 105 or 110 in a friendly match against Australia. He got angry and scolded me,” Tiwary said.
“I was in the washroom when he again started yelling at me. He threatened to destroy my career. Wasim Akram came in between to control the situation. We would have hit each other on that day if Wasim Bhai was not present,” he added.
Tiwary slammed Gautam Gambhir following India’s 1-3 defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He called Gambhir a ‘hypocrite’ for adding foreign coaches to his support staff.
India are currently playing against England in a five-match T20I series. The hosts won the series opener by 7 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Gambhir is under pressure and his performance will be reviewed after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and Dubai.
