The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) marked a significant milestone by setting a new Guinness World Records title. This achievement was for the 'Largest Cricket Ball Sentence,' celebrating the 50th anniversary of Wankhede Stadium.

The record was set using 14,505 cricket balls to form the sentence: "Fifty Years of Wankhede Stadium." This event took place on January 23, 2025, commemorating the stadium's first international match in 1975.

In honour of this historic occasion, MCA paid tribute to the late Eknath Solkar and other notable Mumbai cricketers who have passed away. Solkar had scored a century in the inaugural Test match at Wankhede against West Indies from January 23 to 29, 1975. The association's dedication to excellence was evident as they meticulously arranged the cricket balls on the field.

MCA President Shri. Ajinkya Naik expressed pride in Mumbai's cricket heritage. He stated, "Mumbai cricket has contributed significantly to the sport and it holds a special place in cricket's history. The city has produced some of the greatest cricketers the world has ever seen. Wakhede Stadium is the pride of Mumbai and has witnessed countless historic moments.

"This GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title is a reflection of Mumbai cricket's passion, legacy and relentless pursuit of excellence. It's also a special tribute to all the players, officials and unsung heroes who have contributed to Mumbai's cricketing legacy."

The celebration included various events leading up to this grand spectacle. MCA honoured captains of both men's and women's teams from Mumbai and members who played in Wankhede's first-class match in 1974. Former managing committee members and sports journalists were also recognised for their contributions.

A spectacular event on January 19 featured cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Diana Edulji, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane. The packed stadium enjoyed performances by Ajay-Atul and Avadhoot Gupte followed by an impressive laser show.

MCA also organised a Polly Umrigar Health Camp and a special lunch for groundsmen as part of their celebrations. These efforts aimed to honour those who work behind the scenes ensuring smooth operations at Wankhede Stadium.
