Delhi: Star all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was injured during the Ranji Trophy match between Madhya Pradesh and Kerala at St. Xavier's College Ground in Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram on January 23 (Thursday). This has increased the concern of IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders and their fans. When Iyer came to bat, the team's score was 49/4 in 17.2 overs, due to which he had a huge responsibility to take his team to a respectable score.
Venkatesh Iyer's injury
After playing only three balls, Venkatesh got an ankle injury while batting, due to which his innings came to a sudden halt. When the team physio saw him, the all-rounder fell on the field groaning in pain. Later he was seen leaving the field with the physiotherapist. Iyer was seen sitting in the dugout later in the game, wearing only a pad and resting on a chair to support his injured leg. However, he later returned to bat and scored 42 runs in 80 balls. This was an important innings, due to which Madhya Pradesh was able to score 160 runs.
Important player for KKR
KKR supporters are worried about Iyer's injuries as the team bought him for an incredible Rs 23.75 crore during the mega auction of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). It is believed that Iyer can be given the command of the team for the upcoming season.
Iyer had a successful 2024 season and contributed significantly to his team's batting performance, scoring 370 runs in 15 games (13 innings) at a strike rate of 158.79 and an average of 46.25, including four fifties.
