In Sunday’s double-header, two matches were played: KKR vs LSG and MI vs CSK. The 28th match of the TATA IPL 2024 took place between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After a recent loss, KKR returned to form with a resounding victory over the Super Giants. KKR won the toss and chose to bowl first. LSG scored just 161/7 in their 20 overs, with Nicholas Pooran being the only standout performer. Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc took a match-winning 3/28 in his 4 overs.

In response, KKR quickly chased down the target of 162 in 15.4 overs. Phil Salt scored 89 runs off 47 balls in a stellar unbeaten innings. Captain Shreyas Iyer contributed with a run-a-ball 38, guiding KKR to a comfortable victory. This defeat was LSG’s second consecutive loss, pushing them to sixth position in the points table, while KKR climbed second.

In the evening match, CSK faced MI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs after being asked to bat first. CSK posted a competitive total of 206 runs, with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring 69 runs and MS Dhoni playing a match-winning cameo of 20 runs off just 4 deliveries, including three consecutive sixes off Hardik Pandya.

Mumbai had a good start but struggled later as CSK bowled well, effectively using cutters and the ground dimensions. Matheesha Pathirana took 4-28, bowling crucial overs. Despite Rohit Sharma’s valiant 105 off 63 balls, MI could only manage 186/7 in their 20 overs. With this win, CSK moved to second position in the points table, while MI slipped to eighth.

Virat Kohli is still the Orange Cap Holder in TATA IPL 2024 after completing the 29th Match between MI and CSK. The RCB batter has scored 319 runs in 6 matches. Rajasthan youngster Riyan Parag is behind Kohli with 284 runs. Riyan Parag could add 23 runs to his previous 261 runs against PBKS on Saturday. Samson is in third place with 264 runs.

MI Opener Rohit Sharma enjoyed a steep rise in the rankings after his knock of 105 runs in 63 balls against archrivals Chennai Super Kings. He is now in the fourth position, replacing Shubman Gill. Shivam Dube moved up to sixth position after his unbeaten knock of 66 off 38 deliveries against MI on Sunday.

Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul scored 39 runs in 27 balls against KKR on Sunday. With this knock, he is now in the 10th position with 204 runs. His LSG teammate Nicholas Pooran is above him with 223 runs. Pooran scored 45 runs off 32 balls against KKR.
