There are less than 60 days left for the new season of the Indian Premier League to start. IPL 2025 is to start from March 21. In such a situation, every franchise will hope that when the tournament starts, all its players will be completely fit and available for the competition. But alarm bells have rung for a franchise because its most expensive player has got injured. The injury was such that he had to leave the field. This player is Venkatesh Iyer, who has been bought by the current champion Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore.
The franchise has high hopes this season too from left-handed batsman Venkatesh Iyer, who played an important role in making Kolkata the champion last season, but this disturbing news has come even before the start of the tournament. Venkatesh had to leave the field due to a leg injury during a Ranji Trophy match, which raised the heartbeats of Madhya Pradesh as well as Kolkata fans.
The group matches of the second phase of Ranji Trophy started from Thursday 23 January, in which the match between MP and Kerala also started. MP team batted first but after 4 wickets fell quickly, Venkatesh came to the crease. He could only bat for some time when suddenly he felt a pain in his leg, which appeared to be a hamstring problem. In such a situation he had to go out of the field. However, when the team's 3 more wickets fell in quick succession, Venkatesh decided to step on the crease despite his injury and won everyone's heart with his fighting style.
Before getting out, Venkatesh Iyer played a useful inning of 42 runs, on the basis of which MP team somehow managed to reach the score of 160. Venkatesh showed full courage and played a strong innings for one of his teams but it definitely gave tension to the other team, i.e. Kolkata Knight Riders. At present it is not clear how serious his injury is and whether he will come out to bat in the second innings. But if it becomes more serious then Kolkata may have to start the season without its star player.
Venkatesh played a big role in making Kolkata champion last season. He scored quick half-centuries in Qualifier 1 and the final. In the entire season, this batsman had scored 370 runs at a strike rate of 158. Seeing this performance, Kolkata opened the coffers for him and spent Rs 23.75 crore in the mega auction. Now KKR will only hope that Iyer is available from the beginning of the season.
