Age 31 years, height 6 feet, 4 inches and name Umar Nazir. You have probably never heard this name that much before. But, after what he did to Rohit Sharma in the Ranji Trophy match, believe me you will not forget his name. This bowler, playing for the Jammu and Kashmir team, has won the 13-ball battle unilaterally against Mumbai's star batsman Rohit. He scripted his victory against Rohit by making him crave for a run and taking his wicket. This means that even though Rohit's account opened in the match, whenever he faced Umar Nazir, his bat seemed locked.
In the match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir, Umar Nazir and Rohit Sharma faced each other for 13 balls. In this face-to-face clash in the first innings, Umar did not score runs on even a single ball from Rohit. His 13th ball also became the reason for Hitman getting out and returning to the pavilion. Meaning, against Rohit, Umar Nazir gave 0 runs in 13 balls and also took his wicket.
Now the question is, who is Umar Nazir who tied up Rohit Sharma, famously known as Hitman? And what kind of performance have you given so far in domestic cricket? 31 year old Umar Nazir is a resident of Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Born in 1993, right-arm fast bowler Umar Nazir has been consistently performing well for Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy. In the 2018-19 season of Ranji Trophy, he took 26 wickets at an average of 27.84. In the 2019-20 season, he took 28 wickets at an average of 23.03. And in the 2022-23 season, he took 14 wickets in Ranji Trophy at an average of 22.28.
Umar Nazir made his first class debut in 2013. Since then, in the 57 matches played till the match against Mumbai, he has taken 138 wickets at an average of 29.12. Umar Nazir also made his List A debut just a year after his first class debut, in which he has so far taken 54 wickets in 36 matches.
Even though Rohit Sharma faced 19 balls and scored 3 runs against Jammu and Kashmir. But, not a single run was scored against Umar Nazir. The havoc bowling of Umar Nazir was such that after dismissing Rohit, he also took the wickets of batsmen like Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Tamore.
