Usually, fans are allowed to watch only cricket matches in an international level stadium. They can't play on it even if they want to. But Punjab Cricket Association has brought a big good news for the fans. He has opened the historic IS Bindra Cricket Stadium of Mohali for the general public to play. Now players who love cricket wholeheartedly can book this stadium and play matches. That too on the same pitch where great players of the Indian team like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli have played. On this ground, India defeated Pakistan in the 2011 ODI World Cup semi-finals. Only after this, after 28 years, she could win the trophy in Mumbai.
Mohali's IS Bindra Stadium is special in many ways, which we have already mentioned. Apart from this, it has been the home ground of Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. While playing on this ground in domestic matches, he progressed and later entered Team India. Apart from this, it has also been the home ground of IPL franchise Punjab Kings.
But now he has made the new stadium built in Mullanpur his home ground. Apart from this, this ground gets very little hosting opportunity from BCCI, as a result of which it has become difficult to maintain it. Therefore, Punjab Cricket Association has decided to give it on rent to the general public for playing.
After the 2011 World Cup, this ground has hosted only 6 ODIs and 4 T20 Internationals of Team India. This has had a huge impact on earnings. However, domestic cricket matches still take place. But there is no earning from it. Even during the 2023 ODI World Cup, no match was held, due to which there was a lot of uproar. This ground last hosted an international match against Afghanistan on 11 January 2024 i.e. about a year ago. No match in the white ball series between India and England will be played on this ground.
Mohali's IS Bindra Stadium is now open for memorial and corporate tournaments. In such a situation, if common cricket lovers want to play matches here then they do not need to do much. They will just have to pay the booking fees of this stadium. They will have to book through email or PCA website. PCA has said that it is mandatory to have all the necessary cricket kits to play the match on this pitch.
