Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the Indian Premier League 2024. Chasing 207 runs to win, Mumbai were restricted to 186/6 in 20 overs. Matheesha Pathirana took four wickets for the defending champions and played a key role in his team’s win. Apart from him, MS Dhoni struck 20 runs off 4 balls, which was also one of the memorable moments in the game.
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was spoke about the players’ performance and lauded the team. His special comments were reserved for Dhoni and Pathirana.
“Our young wicketkeeper hitting three sixes was the difference in the end. We needed 10-15 runs extra and were targeting 215-220, but Jasprit Bumrah bowled well.
“These kinds of venues demand special performances in the batting and bowling departments. Our Malinga bowled well and nailed those Yorkers. Tishar and Shardul also bowled well for us. We encourage our players to have good head space. Ajinkya Rahane was not fit, and we thought it was better for him to open the innings,” Ruturaj Gaikwad said.
“You said our Malinga,” Pommie Mbangwa asked Ruturaj.
‘Yeah. He is our baby Malinga, and we call him by that name,” the CSK skipper replied.
Earlier, sensational hitting by Ruturaj and Shivam Dube took the defending champions to a good total. Although Rohit Sharma scored a hundred for the hosts, they couldn’t win a game.
