Why did Shreyas Iyer leave KKR?

By winning the title of IPL 2024, Kolkata became the winner of this Indian T20 League for the third time. Shreyas had achieved this feat for the first time under his captaincy. But despite this, Kolkata did not retain him for IPL 2025. Shreyas told that the communication between the franchisee and him decreased with time and this was the main reason. Shreyas Iyer said on this matter, 'I enjoyed a lot after winning the championship in KKR. There was a huge crowd of fans and support. The fans were cheering and I enjoyed spending time there.

While talking to Idea Exchange, Iyer further said that, we had a conversation right after winning the IPL. But gradually the conversation became intermittent and then the conversation stopped for a few months. According to Iyer, no effort was being made by the franchise regarding his retention and he was surprised by this. Iyer said that if you come to know about things just a week before the retention date, then it clearly means that there is something missing. Iyer further revealed, 'Due to lack of communication, we came to such a brink that we decided to part ways with mutual consent'.

Now Shreyas will captain Punjab, bought for Rs 26.75 crore

In the IPL 2025 auction, Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for a huge amount of Rs 26.75 crore. Iyer proved to be the second most expensive player in IPL history. Shreyas will now be seen taking charge of Punjab. Recently, Punjab Kings had approved his name for captaincy.
