On Friday, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant reached a significant milestone when he became the third youngest player to score 3,000 runs in the Indian Premier League. The dynamic southpaw led his team to victory over Lucknow Super Giants with a brilliant 41 off 24 balls. This win, Delhi’s second of the season, lifted the 2020 runners-up from the bottom to the 9th spot on the table.

Pant reached the milestone on the final delivery of the 12th over by smashing a boundary off Marcus Stoinis. The DC captain displayed impressive shots, including a fine leg, and scooped over the third man. At a young age, he became the third youngest player after Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli to surpass 30,000 runs.

Amazingly, among the 25 batters who have scored over 3,000 runs, he also has the third-highest strike rate of 148.4, trailing only AB De Villiers (151.68) and Chris Gayle (148.96).

DC win the second game in IPL 2024

The Delhi Capitals bowlers folded the Lucknow Super Giants batting lineup to 94/7. Kuldeep Yadav was especially impressive on his return, claiming three wickets. However, a brave 55 off 35 balls by youngster Ayush Badoni enabled Lucknow to post a competitive 167/7.

The DC batters were unfazed in their run chase despite losing both openers for 63 runs by the 7th over. Debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk partnered with Rishabh Pant, hitting his first IPL 50 with 55 runs off 35 balls, including five sixes and four fours. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant fell just short of a half-century, getting stumped on 41 by KL Rahul off a delivery from Ravi Bishnoi.

Both batters were pivotal in ensuring Delhi Capitals would comfortably reach their target. Their successful chase of Lucknow’s 160+ run total also marked the first time this season that Lucknow lost after setting a 160+ run total.
