BCCI has made new guidelines for the players. In those guidelines, importance has been given to playing domestic cricket. But the question is why? Why would any player want to play domestic cricket, when the performance there does not matter. That is not the criteria for selection in Team India. If there was a scale, then at least one of the five top run-getters of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 would have been selected for the England Series or the Champions Trophy. But this did not happen. Not a single one of the 5 highest run-scoring batsmen in the tournament was given a place in Team India for the ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy.

From Karun Nair to Dhruv Shorey… did not choose anyone

You must have heard the name of Karun Nair among the 5 batsmen who have made headlines by scoring runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There will be a lot of advocacy regarding Nair's selection. But despite his performance on the field and advocating his name after the field, he was not selected saying that there was no place in the team. Like Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Sidhesh Veer, Prabhsimran Singh and Dhruv Shorey are 4 more names, who have scored runs in the tournament.

Lots of runs in Vijay Hazare, still out of Team India

Vidarbha captain Karun Nair scored the highest 779 runs in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. He scored these runs in 8 innings with 5 centuries and an average of 389.5.

Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal came second, scoring 651 runs at an average of 93 in 10 innings played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. Mayank scored 4 centuries, out of which 3 came from his bat in 3 consecutive innings.

Sidhesh Veer of Maharashtra was the third highest run scorer with 520 runs in 9 innings. He scored these runs at an average of 86.66 with 2 centuries. Prabhsimran Singh of Punjab has scored 498 runs in 8 innings with 3 centuries and an average of 83.

The 5th highest run scorer in the tournament was Dhruv Shorey, who scored 494 runs in 8 innings with 3 centuries. Vidarbha's Dhruv Shorey scored all his three centuries consecutively, which came in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

BCCI is ignoring its own rules

BCCI and selectors say that even many cricket experts talk about playing domestic cricket and performing there, but when players are performing in domestic cricket then they are not being selected in Team India. In such a situation, the question is then why do players play domestic cricket at all? By doing this, BCCI is ignoring its own rules, which some former cricketers are also pointing towards.

After the end of Vijay Hazare Trophy, now Ranji Trophy is going to start. Domestic cricket performers did not get a place for the Champions Trophy, it remains to be seen that if they do well in Ranji, will any of them be selected for the England tour or not?
