After the selection of Team India for the Champions Trophy 2025, a debate has erupted regarding the name of a player. This player is star wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson. Looking at the T20 form of the last few months, it was believed that Samson would be selected for the Champions Trophy but it did not happen. A major reason behind this was Samson not playing Vijay Hazare Trophy for Kerala. But now the President of Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has slammed Samson in this matter and said that he cannot come and play as per his wish.
Last year in October and November, Samson had scored 3 centuries in T20 International. In such a situation, it was expected that Samson would be selected for the Champions Trophy. But this did not happen and even before the selection, the reason for this was said to be his not playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It was revealed in some reports that Samson did not participate in the camp organized for Kerala's preparation for this tournament, after which he was not selected.
While the Kerala Cricket Association is constantly being reprimanded in this whole issue, everyone from Harbhajan Singh to Kerala MP Shashi Tharoor, apart from the KCA, also slammed the BCCI selection committee for not being selected for the Champions Trophy. Now KCA President Jayesh George has responded regarding this entire matter and on the contrary has scolded Samson. Speaking to English newspaper Indian Express, George said, “I don't think Samson was not selected because he was out of the tournament (Vijay Hazare). He was not selected in Vijay Hazare's squad because he just sent a one-line message that he would not be able to participate in the 30-member camp.
George further said that the association was considering Samson as its captain because he had led Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. George said, “We announced the squad and then the message came that he was available to play. Be it Sanju Samson or any other player, KCA has a policy, everyone has to follow it… How did Sanju reach the Indian team? This happened only because of KCA. This does not mean that whenever you feel like coming to play for the Kerala team.”
