India Champions Trophy Squad News In Hindi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy and three-match ODI series against England. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma announced this at a press conference in Mumbai on Saturday, January 18. Rohit Sharma will command the team and Shubman Gill will be the vice captain. Whereas Jasprit Bumrah has been selected on the basis of fitness. Agarkar announced a 14-member squad for the ICC event. Harshit Rana will replace India's Test vice-captain for the England series.
Among the rest of the squad, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included in the ODI squad for the first time and Kuldeep Yadav, who is in the middle of his rehab, has also been included in the 15-man squad. Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Bumrah will be part of the fast bowling attack, while Mohammed Siraj has been left out.
Captain Rohit Sharma said that if Bumrah is unable to play, Arshdeep will be used in that role with the new ball and in the death overs. Shami will partner with him initially and hence Mohammed Siraj's effectiveness will be slightly reduced. In the spin department, both Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel have been selected, although they may fight for the same spot with Washington Sundar and Kuldeep.
Harshit is yet to play limited overs cricket for India after making his Test debut in Australia, but since he is also a part of the T20 series, the tall bowler from Delhi is likely to get his first taste of the shorter formats at the highest level. There is a possibility, considering that he may get a chance in ODI also.
The middle-order trio of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer has been retained, while Rishabh Pant will be the backup wicketkeeper, while Hardik, Jadeja, Axar and Sundar will be the all-rounders. This is a very similar team to the World Cup 2023 squad, but how the team makes room for players like Axar and Jaiswal will be interesting.
India's squad for Champions Trophy: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wk), Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah (depending on fitness), Kuldeep Yadav.
