Amid the turmoil in Indian cricket over the BCCI's diktat to players, the selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, picked the squad for the Champions Trophy and the ODI series against England.
Despite injury concerns, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was included in the side, for the ICC Champions Trophy that begins on February 19. He had suffered back spasms in the recent Sydney Test against Australia and did not bowl on the final day at the SCG. India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-3 but Bumrah was the top wicket-taker with 32 wickets. He was advised "off-loading", and is being monitored by physios at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
The selction committee convened in Mumbai to pick the provisional 15, following which Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma announced the squad. The deadline to submit the final Champions Trophy squad to the ICC is February 11.

Despite an ordinary form with the bat, especially in Tests, and passive captaincy, Sharma was retained as the skipper for the prestigious tournament, which is set to make a comeback after eight years.
Young Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, too, was included in the squad. The 23-year-old has been in fine form, and being a left-hander, it will allow the team to try the left-right combination at the top, with Sharma partnering him.
However, the batting order will have to be sorted out by head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Sharma, as KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer have also been included in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.
Rishabh Pant will don the gloves, with Rahul doubling up as the backup wicketkeeper. Sanju Samson was conspicuous by his absence in the squad, with his decision to skip the Vijay Hazare Trophy being cited by sources as the reason for his omission. Samson is part of the Indian T20I squad for the England series, which was announced last week.
Karun Nair, who has amassed 752 runs in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy with five hundreds, did not find a place in the squad. It was a problem of plenty, with Hardik Pandya already there in the squad.
Senior pacer Mohammed Shami, too, made a comeback from injury. He too was included in the T20I squad, and having played most of the domestic matches, he was a clear contender for the making the ODI squad for both the tournaments.
Interestingly, Mohammed Siraj missed out on a berth while left-armer Arshdeep Singh made it on the back of a great outing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pacer Harshit Rana has been picked only for the England series.
Kuldeep Yadav, who has been recuperating from a long-standing groin injury, was drafted into the squad. Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are the all-rounders.
India play three ODIs against England on February 6, 9 and 12. In the Champions Trophy, India are in Group A and open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20. India will play Pakistan on February 23. The Men in Blue will play all their matches in Dubai because of the hybrid format.
India squad for Champions Trophy:
Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill (vc), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana
