BCCI had recently made it mandatory for the players of the Indian team to play domestic cricket. After this, many players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had informed about the availability of their respective teams for Ranji Trophy. But now reports have come out that Kohli will not play in the next round of Ranji Trophy to be held from January 23. Apart from him, KL Rahul has also told BCCI that he will not be available for this round of matches. Both the players have cited injury to the board for not playing.

According to the report of ESPN Cricinfo, Virat Kohli has neck pain. He has been facing this injury since the Border Gavaskar Trophy and had also taken an injection for it on January 8, after the end of the series. But till now he has not been able to recover from it. Kohli has told the BCCI medical staff that he is still feeling pain in his neck. This is the reason why he will not be able to play the next Ranji match against Saurashtra on 23 January.
