At the same time, the fourth batsman was also out on the score of 85. After this Sri Lanka made a comeback and somehow put 251 runs on the board. But while chasing it, India lost 8 wickets for 120 runs.
Seeing Team India losing, the Indian fans became so angry that they started throwing bottles on the field. The players got upset by this. Despite this he did not stop and set the stands on fire. The situation became so bad that the match had to be stopped midway and victory was given to Sri Lanka. At this time Kambli was present at the crease. Indian fans were expecting victory in this match. But while chasing 252 runs, they lost the first wicket at the score of 8 runs. After this, Sachin and Sanjay Manjrekar took over the innings and took the team's score to 98. However, none of the fans could believe what happened after this. As soon as Manjrekar was out on the score of 98 runs, there was a flurry of wickets. The Indian team lost 7 wickets in scoring 22 runs.
However, Vinod Kambli was still at the crease with Anil Kumble after scoring 10 runs in 29 balls. But the spectators present in the stadium were aware of the defeat. He was angry with the Indian players. So he started throwing balls and it also caught fire. Seeing the situation worsening, the match referee finally declared Sri Lanka the winner. Kambli could not even bat completely. Kambli could not bear the pain of such defeat. Kambli and the entire country have not been able to forget this accident till date.
