Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson recently took the big decision of opting out from the Vijay Hazare Trophy. According to a report by The Times of India, the decision to not play the domestic tournament can put a major dent in Samson's chances of making it to India's Champions Trophy squad.

The report further stated that the selection committee is not happy with Samson's decision of not featuring for his state side Kerala in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Samson was not picked by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) for their squad after he expressed his unavailability for the camp ahead of the competition. The BCCI has made it very clear that the Indian team's players will have to feature in domestic cricket when not on national duty.

'The selectors and the board have been very clear on the importance of domestic cricket. Last year, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer lost central contracts for missing domestic matches without seeking permission. Even in Samson's case, the board and selectors weren't given any reason why he missed the tournament,' BCCI sources told The Times of India.

'The selectors would want a valid reason. Otherwise, it will be difficult to consider him for the ODI season. Samson has had a bitter history with the KCA, but that needs to be sorted out for him to play domestic cricket. It cannot be that the state association and him have a misunderstanding and he misses out on game time,' the source added.

If Samson does not get considered by the BCCI for the upcoming ICC tournament, then that could open the doors for young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who according to a PTI report, is in the lead alongside Rishabh Pant to make it to India's 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy.
