Now only 4 weeks are left for the Champions Trophy to start. The tournament will start from January 19. The Indian team will play its first match on January 20. But before this important tournament, there is turmoil in Team India. There is conflict between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir on many things. Not only this, his strict attitude is also not being liked by the players. This has created a situation of rebellion against him in the team. In such a situation, speculations are being made whether Gambhir will resign from his post? Even 8 years ago, this had happened with the coach of the Indian team during the Champions Trophy.
For Gautam Gambhir, the team's rebellion is a bigger challenge than the team's poor performance. According to media reports, many players are not liking his way of working. There were also reports of rift between him and the Indian captain during the Australia tour. Not only this, he took strict action on all the players and now after asking BCCI, he has come up with about 10 types of rules.
In such a situation, his toughness and defeat in the Champions Trophy could prove to be a disaster for him. He may be forced to resign. We are not saying this just like that. This work had already been done 8 years ago. In 2017, Anil Kumble had to resign after the Champions Trophy due to his strict attitude. He had to bow down before Virat Kohli.
Indian team's veteran spinner Anil Kumble took command as head coach in June 2016. His appointment was given the green signal by stalwarts like Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, who were members of the Cricket Advisory Committee. But things did not work out between Kumble and the then Indian captain Virat Kohli. There was a lot of conflict between the two. It was revealed in the media that Kumble was very strict about everything related to the team. He used to place a lot of emphasis on discipline.
Many young players felt uncomfortable under his coaching and were not able to express their views openly. This issue became heated during the 2017 Champions Trophy and Kohli complained about it to BCCI. He believed that Kumble was being overly strict. Anil Kumble resigned after the defeat by Pakistan in the final of the tournament. After this, it was revealed in media reports that he was forced to do so. The same thing can happen with Gambhir also.
Gautam Gambhir joined the Indian team last year i.e. in August 2024. Since then there has been a continuous decline in the team's performance. It was during his tenure that Team India faced defeat in the ODI series in Sri Lanka after 27 years. At home, there was a clean sweep for the first time in the Test series against New Zealand. After this, on the Australia tour too, Border lost the Gavaskar Trophy by 1-3. Also the team was out of the race for the World Test Championship. In such a situation, there is a lot of pressure on them. Now, if the Indian team loses in the Champions Trophy, then the difficulties for them will increase even more.
