Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has shown interest in the Team India batting coach role, saying he is 'available' after reports emerged that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering expanding the coaching staff.

According to a Cricbuzz report, BCCI wants to add to head coach Gautam Gambhir's coaching staff that includes, bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, and fielding coach T Dilip.

The report stated the Indian cricket boady is exploring the possibility of adding a new member to the Team India Men's coaching staff, specifically a batting coach after the team's recent failures in the tour Down Under, and the lack of a coach specific to the role.

Although there is no official announcement made, internal discussions indicate a desire to strengthen the coaching setup, particularly in the wake of recent poor performances. Sources suggest that several prominent former domestic figures are being considered for the role.

There is no final decision been made yet on the role, but it is believed that the topic of the support staff had been brought up for discussion in the review meeting held last week in Mumbai.

As BCCI ponder expanding the Indian men's cricket team support staff, the former England star Pietersen made himself available for the role if the batting coach role is up for discussion.

Before Gambhir took over, former India batter Viram Rathour had served in the role as batting coach under Rahul Dravid and also during the tenure of Ravi Shastri. Former opener Sanjay Bangar also has functioned in the batting coach role earlier.

Gambhir himself can don the role, while Nayar and Ten Doeschate also have been hired as assistant coaches, but can equally help in the regard. However, the duo of Nayar and Doeschate are facing scrutiny for not achieving success in solving the technical flaws of star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
