The Champions Trophy is going to start from February 19 to be hosted by Pakistan. This tournament will be played in ODI format i.e. 50 overs. In this format, an Indian player has created havoc with the bat for the last 6 years. This player has scored more than 2000 thousand runs in 31 innings of List A at an average of 83.33. Despite this, this cricketer has not yet got a chance to make his ODI debut for India and is yearning for a match. Here we are talking about Devdutt Padikkal.

Padikkal yearns for the match

Devdutt Padikkal, who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket, is one of the talented cricketers of India. So far, he has been able to play only 2 T20 and 2 Test matches for India, while he has not even got a chance to debut in ODI. For the first time in the year 2021, he had a chance to play for Team India at the international level. Then he made his debut against Sri Lanka and played two matches. He could score only 30 runs in these two matches.

Padikkal could not return to the team again in this format. Last year i.e. in the 2024 Test series against England, he was given a chance in the Test for the first time, in which he played an inning of 65 runs. After this he was out of the team. He got a chance to play in the Perth Test directly on the Australia tour, where Padikkal was out in the first innings without opening the account. An important inning of 25 runs was played in the second innings. But he was out in the very next match and did not get a chance to play in 4 matches.

Despite this, Padikkal did not give up. As soon as he returned from Australia, he joined his home team Karnataka and took part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He played a brilliant inning of 86 runs in the first semi-final of this tournament and helped them reach the final.

Score of runs in domestic cricket

Devdutt Padikkal made his debut in domestic cricket in the year 2018. Since then he has scored 4664 runs in 41 first class matches. During this period he also scored 6 centuries and 17 half-centuries. He made his List A debut in 2019, after which he scored 2063 runs in 31 innings of 32 matches at an average of 83.33. This also includes 9 centuries and 12 half-centuries. Let us tell you that in the 2020-21 season of the domestic ODI tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy, Padikkal had scored 4 consecutive centuries. He became the first batsman in the list to do so. Apart from this, he has scored 2806 runs in 99 T20 matches at an average of 31 and strike rate of 131.
