New Delhi: With their stature and reputation at stake, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is exploring the possibility of adding a new member to the India men’s coaching staff.

It is being learnt that the Indian cricket board of specifically looking for a batting coach to strengthen the area for the Men in Blue.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, there is no official announcement for the same but discussions within the BCCI and the team management suggest that there is a need to strengthen the support staff so as to get better results. The report further mentions that there are few big names that are being considered, including some former domestic cricket biggies.

However, there is no final confirmation for the same.

Decision being taken in aftermath of BGT loss

The decision is being taken in the aftermath of the loss India faced in Australia in the recently-concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. While the loss against New Zealand in the home Test series was a lesson, the BGT loss came as an eye opener which hit the Indian cricket board badly. While the bowling was fine to an extent, there was heavy criticism of the role and functioning of the coaching staff, particularly with big players like Virat Kohli getting out in similar fashion regularly.

At present, India’s coaching staff consists of Morne Morkel (bowling coach), Abhishek Nayar (assistant coach), Ryan ten Doeschate (assistant coach) and T Dilip (fielding coach) besides the head coach Gautam Gambhir. The report further mentions that the role of the support staff was discussed in the review meeting that took place in Mumbai on January 11. The exact nature of the meeting held cannot be explained but there are rumours that some additional force may be roped in to push the batting staff.
