During the Australia tour, the Indian team had to face a crushing defeat of 1-3 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Apart from the performance of the Indian players on this tour, many things outside the field also came to light, which became the subject of discussion. After the Gabba Test, the team's veteran spinner Ashwin suddenly announced his retirement. He left the series midway and returned home. His decision surprised everyone. During this time, there were reports of rift between Ashwin, Rohit and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Many veterans had raised questions about not allowing him to play the final Test. Now Ashwin himself has broken his silence on this issue.
Ashwin has talked about retirement on his YouTube channel 'Aish Ki Baat'. He has explained the reason behind his decision. According to Ashwin, his creativity had ended. He was beginning to feel that his work was over. Therefore decided to retire.
Ashwin said, 'I think a lot about what to do next in life. You all have to understand that all this happens automatically. If someone starts feeling that his work has been completed. Once such thoughts start coming then there is no point in thinking anything. I couldn't think of doing anything creative. I felt that this thing had finished inside me. So decided to retire.
Ashwin also answered the questions raised by the fans about the stir after his retirement and not getting the farewell test. Ashwin said that 'people said a lot but it was not such a big thing. What do you think happened? I didn't play the first match, played the second. Then he was out from third and might have played in the next match. What difference does it make if the farewell test is not found? Just imagine that I don't have a place in the team but I have been kept in the team only for the farewell. I come down to play and people are clapping. I don't like this nor do I want all this.
According to Ashwin, he could have played more cricket but there was no place left for him in the team. He says that there is still cricket left in him, which he wants to play further but not from the Indian dressing room but from somewhere else. He said, 'I could have played more but it is better to retire only when people ask why now, not when people say why not now.'
