January 13 was a very special day for Pakistan's famous T20 league, Pakistan Super League (PSL). A draft program was organized in Lahore for the new season of the league. For this special event, all the senior officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board were present, the captains of all the 6 teams were also present and something happened right here in front of them, which shocked everyone. His own league had to face embarrassment in front of the whole of Pakistan. This happened because a great batsman of Pakistan took the name of Indian Premier League instead of PSL in this program.
For the last several weeks, the Pakistani board was busy preparing for the PSL Players Draft. A lot of atmosphere was being created for this. It started with full pomp and show on Monday, January 12, but even before any player could be selected, an embarrassing situation arose. Before the start of the draft, former Pakistan captain and veteran batsman Zaheer Abbas mistakenly mentioned IPL instead of PSL.
Inaugurating the draft event, Zaheer Abbas said, “You cannot play any tournament without players. Now we are calling foreign players and asking them to play with Pakistani players. This is also the best way to improve your game. I wish IPL all the best to do better because they have always been doing good for Pakistan.”
Now Zaheer Abbas wanted to take the name of PSL but IPL came out of his mind. Obviously this was just a slip of the tongue and a mistake but the PCB and the league officials must have faced some embarrassment. It also shows that PSL is still far behind the popularity of IPL. The difference is so big that even in the minds of veterans of Pakistan, the name of IPL comes first instead of PSL.
