Karun Nair was not treated fairly by the national team and the team management after he scored a triple hundred against England in 2016. He remained a part of the Playing XI for some time and was then discard without any reason. The right-handed has been willing to play international cricket. He was even removed by Karnataka but the batter continued to fight.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Karun Nair is back on the selectors’ radar after scoring 664 runs in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he hit four consecutive hundreds to help Vidarbha in qualifying for the semi-finals.

He scored an unbeaten 122 runs as Vidarbha beat Rajasthan in the quarterfinals. Karun hasn’t been dismissed yet in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.

He has accumulated 112*, 44*, 163*, 111*, 112*, 122* and holds the record of the most runs by a batter in the history of List A cricket without being dismissed. He is the second cricketer to score five tons in a single edition of the event after Tamil Nadu’s Jagadeesan.

“The selectors are watching Karun Nair as they look set to replace Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in Test cricket. However, it is not confirmed if the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will give him a chance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the Test series in England,” read the report.

He was helped by former India international and current BCCI GM Abey Kuruvilla. “I was without a team and decided to seek his help. He helped me to join Vidarbha. I am thankful to him and the Vidarbha Cricket Association for backing me,” Nair said.

He also had an impressive maiden County season for Northamptonshire in 2023. Nair scored 690 runs in Ranji Trophy 2023-25 season. He returned to County with a double hundred, followed by a ton in Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

“Everyone wants to play for India. I would love to be a part of Test cricket again. I will have to keep scoring runs to play for the country,” Nair concluded.
