While Indian fans are waiting for the announcement of Team India for the Champions Trophy 2025, teams from some other countries have already been announced. India's neighbor Bangladesh announced its squad on Sunday 12 January. However, the Bangladeshi selection committee took a shocking decision and dropped the team's most important batsman. The interesting thing is that Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the team during the day and in the evening the same batsman gave his answer with explosive batting. This player is experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das.

Selectors did not give a chance

Bangladesh Cricket Board announced its squad on Sunday. Under the leadership of captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the board revealed the names of 15 players. In this, the most attention was drawn by the absence of the team's greatest all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib did not pass the bowling action test, due to which the Bangladeshi board decided not to select him. But not only Shakib but also everyone was surprised when Liton Das was not selected.

Answered with a blazing century in the evening

In such a situation, Litton had only one option to respond and that was to show the power of his bat on the field. This 30-year-old explosive batsman did just that and wreaked havoc in the Bangladesh Premier League match. Litton, playing for Dhaka Capital, came in the opening and thrashed the bowlers as if he was venting out his anger on them for missing out on selection. Liton scored an astonishing century in just 44 balls. During this, he hit 8 fours and 7 sixes.

Litton not only stopped after scoring a century but also remained there till the end. He played a brilliant inning of 125 unbeaten runs in just 55 balls, which included 10 fours and sixes. Not only this, Litton along with his fellow opener Tanjeed Hasan made a tremendous partnership of 241 runs. Tanzeed also scored a century and scored 108 runs in 64 balls. In this match, Dhaka scored 254 runs losing only 1 wicket and then won the match by a huge margin of 149 runs. Now Litton must be hoping that he has again attracted the attention of the selectors with his innings so that if some changes are needed in the squad, then he should be selected.

Why was he not selected for the Champions Trophy?

Well, the reason for Litton's not being selected also does not seem wrong. This batsman has not played any big innings in ODI cricket for more than a year. From January 2023, he played 33 innings in ODI cricket and scored only 657 runs at an average of around 22. Whereas in 5 innings of 2024, he could score only 6 runs, out of which he could not even open the account 3 times. Whereas in the last 7 consecutive innings there were only single digit scores. In such a situation, the decision of the selectors seems right but will this century change Liton's fortunes? Will keep an eye on this.
