Salman Khan announced Iyer's name in the special episode of Bigg Boss 'Weekend Ka Vaar' aired on Sunday, January 12. Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shashank Singh were present as guests especially for this show. All these three players are part of Punjab Kings. It was already being speculated that Iyer would be made the new captain of the franchise and Salman Khan also formally announced it in the show.

Iyer is the most expensive player of Punjab Kings

Stylish right-handed batsman Iyer was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders till last season and it was under his leadership that Kolkata won the IPL 2024 title. However, despite this, the franchise and Iyer had decided to part ways before the new season. After this, in the mega auction held in November, Punjab Kings surprised Iyer by buying him at an astonishing price of Rs 26.75 crore. With this, Iyer also became the most expensive player of Punjab and the second most expensive player in IPL history.

Won 2 T20 titles last year

This is the third team in IPL, which will be captained by Iyer. He has also become the first captain to do so. Till now many players have captained two teams but Iyer has become the first player to command three teams. One reason for Iyer getting the captaincy is the good performance of the teams led by him. Not only Kolkata, but Iyer also made Mumbai the champion of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy under his captaincy in November-December last year.

Chahal also got command

Although, not only Iyer has got the captaincy of Punjab, but star leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has also been made the captain of the team. This may seem shocking but it is true. If you are thinking that Chahal has been made the vice-captain who will take charge of the team in Iyer's absence, then this is also not correct. Actually, Chahal has been made captain for some other purpose. Captain Iyer himself revealed this. He made it clear that even though he is the captain of the team, the captain of the team party will be Yuzvendra Chahal. That means Chahal will prepare the team's entertainment plan outside the field.
