Iyer was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders last season and under his leadership the team became champion.

It is known that in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Punjab Kings made Iyer a part of their team by buying them for a huge amount of Rs 26.75 crore.

At the same time, Shreyas Iyer expressed his gratitude to the team management on being appointed captain by Punjab Kings. He said, “I am honored that the team has expressed its confidence in me.
