Arshdeep Singh is on the brink of making history in T20 international cricket, with just two wickets needed to surpass Yuzvendra Chahal and become India’s all-time highest wicket-taker in the shortest format. Currently, with 95 wickets to his name, Arshdeep is poised to break the 100-wicket barrier in the upcoming T20I series against England, starting on January 22. If he takes five more wickets in this series, he will become the first Indian cricketer to reach this milestone.
In addition to his impressive career tally, Arshdeep finished 2024 as India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is, with 35 wickets. He also had an outstanding performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, claiming 17 wickets. These performances have solidified his place as a key bowler in India’s T20I setup.
Here’s a look at the top Indian wicket-takers in T20Is:
96 wickets – Yuzvendra Chahal
95 wickets– Arshdeep Singh
90 wickets–Bhuvneshwar Kumar
89 wickets– Jasprit Bumrah
89 wickets –Hardik Pandya
As India gears up for the five-match T20I series against England, Arshdeep’s form is expected to be crucial for the team’s success. The squad for the series has yet to be announced, but Arshdeep is expected to feature prominently in the playing XI.
Looking ahead, Arshdeep Singh is also a strong contender for a spot in India’s squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Reports suggest that Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep, and Mohammed Siraj are the leading pacer options, with Hardik Pandya likely to play as the third seamer. Should Arshdeep not be fully fit for ODIs, Khaleel Ahmed is being considered as an alternative, with his performances catching the eye of the team management. The inclusion of Mohammed Shami will depend on his fitness status.
