After a lot of wait, finally Team India has been announced for the T20 series against England. The Senior Selection Committee of BCCI announced the squad under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav for the T20 series against England starting later this month. The selection committee has surprised everyone by giving a place to star fast bowler Mohammed Shami in the team. Shami, who was out of action for more than a year, is returning to the team from T20 cricket. However, the selection committee has currently postponed the selection of ODI series and Champions Trophy for a few days.
On Saturday, January 11, a meeting of the selection committee headed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar was held at the BCCI headquarters, in which the team was selected and then the names of the selected players were announced. The most surprising entry has been that of Shami, who was staying away from international cricket since the World Cup 2023. This is surprising because Shami has not played any T20 International since the World Cup in 2022. However, his comeback has increased the hopes of his selection in the ODI series and then the Champions Trophy.
The 5th T20 series between India and England will start from January 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Apart from Shami, the selection committee has not taken any major surprising decision for this series. However, the team has definitely got a new vice-captain. Spin-allrounder Akshar Patel will be the vice-captain of Team India in this series. Most of the players who were part of the team on the South Africa tour in November have been selected in the series.

Apart from them, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Dhruv Jurel and Harshit Rana have also returned to the team, who were earlier playing in the T20 series against Bangladesh but were not available for the last T20 series due to Australia tour.
On the other hand, the selection committee has not given a chance to Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dubey, two key players who were part of the T20 World Cup winning team, in this series. It is not clear whether Pant has been rested or dropped from the team in view of the ODI series and Champions Trophy. Dubey, however, has failed to make it. Shreyas Iyer, who made Mumbai win the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy title under his captaincy, has also not been able to make it. However, Iyer also seems certain to play in the ODI series.
