Delhi: The Indian team for the five-match T20 series between India and England starting from January 22 in Kolkata can be announced on Saturday (January 11) or Sunday (January 12). After the BCCI annual meeting in Mumbai, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar will meet on Saturday evening to finalize the team. The team will be captained by Suryakumar Yadav. The selectors will also discuss the possible team for the Champions Trophy, but its announcement has been postponed till next week.
Five T20 matches will be played between January 22 and February 2, after which a three-match series will be played from February 6. These ODIs are being seen as the last chance to prepare for the Champions Trophy. India has not played any ODI since August 2024.
Sanju Samson, who scored two centuries in South Africa, will be the first choice as wicketkeeper. The risk of playing Rishabh Pant before the Champions Trophy will not be taken.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has performed well in Test cricket recently, may also be rested in the T20 series.
Tilak Verma, who scored two consecutive T20 centuries in South Africa, can play at number three.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj will be given rest. In such a situation, Arshdeep Singh will lead the fast bowling. Names like Avesh Khan and Harshit Rana can be considered. The trio of Varun Chakraborty, Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel can handle the spin responsibility.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya will be the first choice in finishing. Shivam Dubey, who was out of the South Africa series due to injury, may make a comeback.
Nitish Kumar Reddy can also make a comeback in the team. He left his mark in the Bangladesh T20 series. The situation on Riyan Parag's fitness is still not clear.
