Be it cricket or any other game, small accidents of some kind often happen in any such game played on the field or court. Most of the time it happens that a player gets injured. But such an accident took place in the Big Bash League being played in Australia, in which not a player but a bird was badly injured. This accident happened in the match played between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers, which troubled everyone.
This BBL match was being played in Melbourne on Thursday 9 January. When the Sydney Sixers team was batting in this match, this accident happened due to a shot by their batsman James Vince. Sydney team was chasing the target of 157 runs and at that time Vince was present at the crease for batting. Left arm fast bowler Joel Paris was bowling in the 10th over of the innings and this accident happened on the fifth ball of the same over.
Vince played this ball towards the straight boundary. The ball was in the air for some time but there was a large flock of seagull birds sitting near the boundary. Just during this time, the fast moving ball fell directly on one of these birds. As soon as the ball hit the seagull, its feathers flew into pieces and scattered on the ground. That seagull kept writhing in agony, while the rest of the flock flew into the air. The ball went for 4 runs.

This is not the first time that a bird has been injured by being hit by a ball during a match like this in Australia. Some such accidents have happened before also. In fact, during the months of December-January, flocks of seagull birds fly from one place to another in Australia. In such situations, sometimes their herds reach Melbourne and some other plains also. Due to this, the risk of such accidents not only remains, but it also causes problems to the players. Something similar happened in this match also. During the match, a flock of seagulls was present on the field at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and was continuously flying from one part to another. Due to this, once Melbourne player Ben Duckett took a simple and easy catch because the seagulls were also flying at that time.
