Martin Guptill, who started his international career in 2009, was not a part of the New Zealand team for the last two years. Martin Guptill has played in all three formats for New Zealand. With this his 14 year long international career has come to an end. During this period, he made many big records for the New Zealand team. However, he will still continue to play in T20 league cricket.

Martin Guptill is the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in the T20I format. Apart from this, he has also achieved the feat of scoring a double century in the ODI World Cup. He scored this double century during the 2015 ODI World Cup. Apart from this, he is also the third highest run scorer for New Zealand in ODIs. Announcing his retirement, Martin Guptill said, 'It was always my dream to play for New Zealand as a young kid and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 matches for my country.'

Guptill further said, 'I will always cherish the memories I made wearing the Silver Fern with a group of great people. I would like to say a huge thank you to all my teammates and the coaching staff over the years, especially Mark O'Donnell, who has coached me from Under 19 level and has been a constant source of support and knowledge throughout my career .
