Jay Shah took over as ICC chairman at the beginning of last month. After this the post of Secretary in BCCI became vacant. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashish Shelar has also taken oath as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government led by Devendra Fadnavis. In such a situation, at present the post of Secretary and Treasurer is vacant in BCCI. Who will fill this vacant post will be announced in the Special General Meeting (AGM) on January 12. Meanwhile, the names of two veterans have come forward, who will take over this responsibility.
Devjit Saikia will be elected unopposed as BCCI Secretary in the Special General Meeting of the Indian Cricket Board on January 12, as he is the only candidate in the final list of those contesting the election. On the other hand, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be elected treasurer. He is also the only candidate in the list of those contesting the elections. Let us tell you, the list of candidates participating in the elections was prepared by BCCI election officer and former CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) of India, Achal Kumar Joti on Tuesday.
In fact, the last date for filing nominations for these posts had ended last week, while the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended at 2 pm on Tuesday. Since no candidate withdrew his name, the returning officer published the list of contesting candidates at 5 pm on Tuesday evening. The elections will be held during the SGM on January 12 and the decision will be announced on the same day, which is now a formality.
Let us tell you that just a few weeks ago, Board of Control for Cricket in India President Roger Binny had appointed Devjit Saikia as the interim secretary. Now Devjit Saikia will continue on this post. On the other hand, Bhatia had filed nomination for the post of Treasurer and there is no one in front of him in the elections. In such a situation, there is a delay in getting the seal on his name also.
