Border-Gavaskar Trophy was very bad for Team India. The Indian team had to face 1-3 defeat in this series against Australia. After this poor performance, Indian players are under the scanner. Many veteran cricketers have severely criticized players for poor performance. Meanwhile, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has raised questions on BCCI regarding the delay in the recovery of Team India's fast bowler Mohammed Shami's injury. He was also playing domestic cricket after recovering from his injury, but after this the BCCI had decided to drop him. But Ravi Shastri has called this decision wrong.
Mohammed Shami is out of international cricket since ODI World Cup 2023. He was injured during this tournament. After this he had to undergo ankle surgery in February 2024. Then he stayed away from the cricket field for a long time. After all this he returned to the field in Ranji Trophy. After this, he also played in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and is also playing in Vijay Hazare Trophy. But still he did not get approval from NCA to go to Australia. Then BCCI shared an update and dropped him from the entire series. But Ravi Shastri believes that he would have definitely taken Shami to Australia and he would have been taken care of there.
Ravi Shastri said in the ICC review, 'I would have kept him a part of the team and made sure that his rehabilitation was with the team, and then if by the third Test match we felt that no, this player cannot play the rest of the series, then I would have included him. Let go. But I would have brought him with the team, got him monitored by the best physios and even got the best advice from international physios who are in Australia and seeing how he is performing. But I would have kept him in the team.
Ravi Shastri further said, 'To be honest, I am very surprised by the discussion going on in the media as to what happened to Shami. Where is he when it comes to recovery? I don't know how long he has been sitting in NCA. Why is proper information not available about where he is? If he was a player of his potential, I would have brought him to Australia.
