New Delhi: Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is reportedly set to be rewarded with his maiden ODI call-up after his impressive show in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.

Jaiswal was India’s best batter in the five-match Test series against Australia where he notched up 391 runs in 5 matches.

While he topped the run-scoring charts for India, Jaiswal finished the Australia series as the second-highest run-getter overall. Despite being on his first tour of Australia, the 21-year-old left-hander proved his mettle against the likes of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins with his solid show with the bat. Thanks to his Test heroics Down Under, the left-hander might soon get his maiden ODI call-up for India.

As per a report in Rev Sportz, Jaiswal is set to earn his maiden ODI call-up for India’s upcoming three-match series against England at home and is also likely to be picked in the squad for Champions Trophy 2025. The swashbuckling left-hander will be picked in the squad as a backup opener to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who are set to remain the first-choice opener for India in ODIs.

Jaiswal has enjoyed a meteoric rise for India in international cricket over the last couple of years and has already showcased he has the talent and the temperament required to shine at the highest level. The young opener has been a revelation in Tests where he has already notched up 1798 runs in 19 matches at an average of over 52, including 4 centuries and 10 fifties.

He has been equally good in T20Is with 723 runs in 23 matches at an average of 36.15 and an impressive strike rate of 164.31, including 5 fifties and a solitary ton. However, Jaiswal is yet to make his debut for India in ODIs which many believe can be the best-suited format for the left-hander.

BCCI to announce Champions Trophy squad soon

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce India’s squad for the England white-ball series and the Champions Trophy 2025 by the end of this week. January 12 is the deadline set by the ICC for all teams to announce their provisional squads for the Champions Trophy 2025. While Jaiswal looks set for his maiden ODI call-up, the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are also expected to return.
