The trumpet of Champions Trophy is going to sound from next month. The tournament will start from 19th February, for which the last date for announcing the teams is 12th January. The Indian team for this ICC tournament will also be announced soon. But, the big question is whether that player will get a chance in it, who has been continuously doing well in the domestic tournaments. And, who has scored 1341 runs so far in 5 tournaments. Yes, we are talking about Shreyas Iyer, who was badly affected by injuries and poor form earlier. But, seeing him playing in the domestic season 2024-25, it seemed as if now everything is under his control.
Anyway, in white ball cricket, Shreyas Iyer is the first line player for Team India. And, looking at the form he is in now, the selection of this promising player for the Champions Trophy 2025 seems even more certain. Iyer is currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where his bat is not scoring runs but raining. The witnesses of this are his average and centuries.
Shreyas Iyer has scored 325 runs at an average of 325 in 5 innings of 5 matches played so far in Vijay Hazare Trophy. During this period he has scored 2 half-centuries. That is, he did not even score a half-century. If he has gone above fifty then he has only scored a century. His best score so far in the current season of Vijay Hazare Trophy is 137 runs.
But, this is just a tournament. Shreyas Iyer's form has been similar in other tournaments played before. Be it Ranji Trophy, where he has scored 452 runs in 5 innings of 4 matches at an average of 90.40, which included 2 centuries. There is also a double century among these two centuries.
Apart from Ranji, Shreyas Iyer has scored 345 runs in 8 innings of Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament at a strike rate of 188.52. During this period, Iyer has scored 1 century and 1 half-century. Shreyas Iyer scored 154 runs in 3 matches of Duleep Trophy while 65 runs in 1 match of Irani Trophy. He did not score any century in both these tournaments.
Now if we add the runs scored by Shreyas Iyer in these five tournaments played in domestic cricket, then his total becomes 1341 runs. However, this number may increase further, because Shreyas Iyer's game is on in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Vijay Hazare Trophy is a white ball tournament and the kind of performance he is performing in it is strengthening his claim to be selected for the Champions Trophy 2025.
